Colon Hydrotherapy
OTHER COLON HYDROTHERAPY QUESTIONS
CAN I ADD ANYTHING TO THE COLONIC?
If you would like to add herbs, minerals, Bifidus or Acidophilus (friendly bacteria) added to the colonic it is necessary for your M.D. to write that on a prescription (see below). You can choose to bring the products or they may be purchased at the office.
Products include Good Bacteria #17, Spring Cleaner (a liver and kidney cleanser), and Blood Cleanse. Ask our therapists if an additive is right for you.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
Most clients have approximately six Colon Hydrotherapy sessions.
It is suggested to have one to two colonics a week depending on the situation of the client. Usually clients come in throughout the year for maintenance.
After the first session it is suggested to complete the Urine Indican Test. The test will give an idea of how many sessions are needed and if the body is digesting protein. Proteins normally take 12 to 24 hours to pass through the intestines. The longer proteins take to pass through, the more toxic the system. The test is very simple for a minimal fee.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTERWARDS
After the session many clients have reported more energy; clearer skin and eyes; increased elimination through the kidney, skin and bowel; relief from gas; toned and improved colon function. This in turn imparts a general feeling of good health.
Some people experience a moderate amount of nausea, cramping, bloat and an increase of gas. This is quite normal and is a sign that the body is ridding itself of wastes and toxins.
Please note it often takes a few days to have a bowel movement after the Colon Hydrotherapy session. If this happens, suspect that food is not being digested properly. Please call or e-mail to let us know how you are feeling.
Remember to take a deep breath before eating, chew your food until it is liquid, eat slowly, and relax while eating. This can improve digestion.
WHAT SHOULD BE EATEN AFTER THE SESSION?
If the doctor has given you a specific diet always follow that protocol.
Follow the Nutrition Guidelines or the Detox Food Supplement Plan for suggested food choices. Generally continue to eat lightly; soup, fruit, and/or vegetables for the first meal after the colon hydrotherapy session. One may eat normally at the next meal. Be sure to drink at least 64 ounces of filtered water or half your weight in ounces.
WHO NEEDS A DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION?
If you have any of the following contrindications you MUST have a prescription from a licensed doctor on file before you can receive colon hydrotherapy. All minors under 13 years of age must have a doctor's prescription regardless of condition.
Contraindications include:
- Cancer
- Cirrhosis of the liver
- Ulcerative colitis
- Chron's disease
- Diverticulitis
- Kidney disease
- Uncontrolled blood pressure
- Rectal bleeding
- Bleeding hemorrhoids
- Hernia
- Women breast-feeding or in the 1st or 3rd trimester of pregnancy
- Sustained use of blood thinners including over-the-counter aspirin
- Any major surgery within the last 3 months
In general it is preferable to have a doctor's prescription on file. Please advise your physician of the contrindications listed above. Ask your physician to write on the prescription "colon hydrotherapy as needed".
WHEN SHOULDN'T I HAVE A COLONIC?
If you have rectal bleeding or hemorrhoids that are bleeding, or you are menstruating, please wait to schedule your colonic or call us to reschedule.
WHAT IF I HAVE PARASITES?
Whether one should or should not receive colon hydrotherapy depends on the situation. Some health professionals say that a colonic would be a good idea to cleanse the bowel to rid the system of possible parasites. Other health professionals say to wait until the parasites have cleared out of the system and the mucosal barrier is healed.
The tests available to determine these infections are the GI Pathogen Screen and Parasite Antibodies Kit. For more information on the tests ask the receptionist.
