USEFUL TESTS
WHEN SHOULD THE TESTS BE ORDERED?
The Nutrition Interview will assist in determining what tests would be appropriate.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LABORATORY TESTING?
Laboratory testing can be very useful in determining nutrition issues. Over the years Jeri Evans believes that one can’t always tell if a client has anemia, adrenal dysfunction or what specific parasite they may have by talking to them or looking at them. Some nutritionists like to do muscle testing or just dole out supplements without any laboratory workups. Laboratory tests make it easier to know where to begin. Testing can save time and money.
Jeri Evans is not a doctor and therefore cannot diagnose, however results from testing may aid the doctor in determining pathogenic risks. In some cases antibiotics may be necessary.
WHAT TESTS ARE USEFUL?
Clients in Southern California that come to the office may start off with a sub-clinical audit. This consists of an Adrenal Stress Index, GI Pathogen Screen #401B or #401HB, Expanded Chemistry Profile #290, Parasite Antibodies Profile III #398, Helicobacter pylori Antibodies #383, and Urinary Indican test.
Clients that are not able to come to the office will be receiving phone consultations. People outside of Southern California are only allowed to purchase saliva and stool tests. The tests to start with would be the Adrenal Stress Index and GI Pathogen Screen #401HB.
WHAT TESTS ARE INCLUDED IN THE INDIVIDUAL PANELS?
Adrenal Stress Index is a saliva test that evaluates stress. This test will track free fraction cortisol output in the morning, afternoon, mid afternoon and evening. In addition this panel contains: free fraction DHEA (S), free fraction17-Hydroxyprogesterone, Insulin, Total Salivary SIgA and Gliadin Antibodies.
Parasite Antibodies Profile III #398 is a serum test that checks for IgM, IgG to Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, and Toxoplasma gondii. (View more)
GI Pathogen Screen #401B is a stool test. This is a great test to do because it is thorough and frequently produces positive results. It includes Ova & parasites x 4 (Trichrome stain) plus antigens to Giardia lamblia, Cryptosporidium parvum and Entamoeba histolytica. Also includes Stool x 1testing for bacteria, fungi, yeasts, occult blood, Clostridium difficile and Colitis toxins A & B. (View more)
GI Pathogen Screen #401HB includes the GI Pathogen Screen #401B plus Helicobacter pylori Stool Antigen.

It includes: Anemia Screen, Auto-Immune Screen, Basic Lipid Panel, Bone and Mineral Screen, Celiac/Gluten Sensitivity Screen, CBC with Differential, Coronary Risk Screen, Glycemic Control Screen, Invasive Candida Screen, Liver Function Screen, Renal/Electrolyte Screen; Thyroid Screen.
Urinary Indican Test checks for protein malabsorption. Refer to the Colon Hydrotherapy section Indican test for instructions. (View more)
TEST INTRUCTIONS
Every test comes with specific instructions that are in each test kit. Some tests need preparation. Please read the instructions a week before starting the test. Remember to include a check or credit card number with each test kit.
All BioHealth Diagnostics test kits include the cost of mailing. All Diagnos-Techs, Inc do not include the cost of mailing. Please send the kits to the appropriate laboratory. The address is either on the instruction sheet located in each kit and/or on the prepared mailing labels.
TESTS THAT REQUIRE SPECIAL INFORMATION
The Adrenal Stress Index is best to do on a typical stressful day. All four samples need to be done at the specific times and all in one day. The instructions are located on the back of the test instructions. If having difficulty producing saliva, chew sugarless and odorless gum or swish your mouth out with water and lemon juice.
The GI Pathogen Screen #401B or #401HB are stool tests. Keep in mind that this a four day test. One has up to eleven days to collect the stool samples. I have found that it is easier to catch parasites around the full moon. That means one can begin collecting stool samples one to two days before the full moon and finish one to two days after the full moon or take up to eleven days. If having difficulty with constipation use glycerin suppositories, flax seed meal, olive oil, and magnesium. Do not use Vitamin C, any type of laxatives or parasitic herbal preparations. If in doubt call the office.
CAN TEST RESULTS BE REVIEWED IN THE INITIAL NUTRITION CONSULTATION?
Yes. The test results can be included in the initial visit. The session may take one to two hours. However, clients learn about the food plan in the Initial Nutrition Consultation. Instead of waiting for three weeks for the test results to come in, start on the food plan. Review test results in the follow-up session.
HOW LONG DO THE TEST RESULTS TAKE?
The office will receive the results in about 3 weeks from the date the tests are submitted.
HOW OFTEN ARE THE FOLLOW-UP TESTS?
Some tests may be repeated anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. For maintenance the tests may need to be repeated once a year.
IS LABORATORY TESTING MANDATORY?
No. Clients may choose to just follow the diet plans and supplements.
CAN TESTS BE DONE ONE AT A TIME?
Yes. However, it takes longer to find nutritional issues and is not as cost effective to the client.
ARE TESTS COVERED BY INSURANCE?
The tests that are available to purchase are not covered by insurance. In order to be covered by insurance the doctor has to justify each individual test. Many of these tests are not available to the doctor depending on the laboratory the doctor is contracted with. The doctor may not be familiar with some of the tests.
An advantage to testing without insurance is that there is a wide range of tests that can be ordered and will assist in a determining an overall health picture.
WHAT IS THE BILLING PROCEEDURE?
Clients pay the laboratories directly. Check, money order or credit card are acceptable forms of payment and should be included in the each test kit. Jeri Evans does not receive any compensation from the testing.
